Strade, Fred (15 APR 1857 - 11 FEB 1912)

The sad news that Fred Strade, one of the prominent and well to do farmers of the town of Colby, Clark Co., Wis., had taken his own life, reached this city, last Sunday forenoon, and cast a gloom over all who were personally acquainted with him. It seems that the family was about ready for church and Mr. Strade went to the barn to hitch up the team, but not returning promptly they went to the barn and found him with a noose around his neck, hanging from the hook used to hang the harness on, his feet drawn up so as not to touch the floor, but life was extinct. No cause is known for his rash act. Fred Strade was of a very pleasant disposition, always a jolly fellow to meet, and when the city Wednesday of last week, one would think him the last man that would resort to such a deed.

Fred Strade was born in Germany, April 15th, 1857, and was aged 54 years, 9 months and 26 days at the time of his death. He was married on May 10th, 1885, to Miss Augusta Drake, to which union there were born nine children, five daughters and four sons. The daughters are: Alma (Mrs. Otto Krueger) of the town of Colby, Ella (Mrs. L.G. Schorer) of this city, Bertha, Edna and Hattie, living at home. The sons are: Edwin, Harry, Bennie and Clarence, living at home, all of whom have the deep and heartfelt sympathy of this entire community.

The funeral is being held at the church in Curtiss, this Thursday, Rev. Siewald of Greenwood officiating. Interment will be in the Curtiss (Pine Hill) Cemetery.
