Firnstahl, Lawrence J. (25 APR 1889 - 29 MAY 1911)

Lawrence J. Firnstahl died at the home of his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Paul Firnstahl, in the town of Hull, Marathon Co., Wis., at 6:30 Monday evening, May 29th, 1911, of tuberculosis, aged 22 years, 1 month and 4 days.

Lawrence John Firnstahl was born in the town of Hull, April 25th, 1889, where he resided with his parents until about three years ago, when he associated himself with his brothers Gehrman and Otto in the mercantile firm of Firnstahl Bros. in this city. A year later he opened a branch store at Unity, and also held stock in the Northwestern Hay & Produce Co., and moved to Stanley, N.D. In June he filed a 160 acre claim six miles from Stanley, and stayed on the place until in September, when he was kicked in the breast by one of his broncos, which soon after caused hemorrhage of the lungs, and his physician advised him to return to Wisconsin. He returned last October and remained at home with his parents, failing slowly from the time of his arrival. His last words were, "mother, I’ll be a man as long as I live." Lawrence was a patient sufferer, never complaining or mentioning his sickness.

He was an honest, hardworking young man, and while in Dakota he acquired a third share in 640 acres of choice farm lands, and a two-story building in Stanley, and in a stock of merchandise at Little Falls, Minn., which interests he disposed of a few weeks prior to his death.

The funeral is being held from St. Mary’s Church this Thursday morning, and is largely attended by relatives and sympathizing friends. The Catholic Order of Foresters and E.F.U. Societies attended in a body and escorted the remains to the cemetery.
