Matti, Geraldine "Gerry" Mae (2 Oct. 1925 - 16 July 1997)

Geraldine "Gerry" Mae Matti, 71, of Humbird, died on Wednesday, July 16, 1997 at Pine View Nursing Home in Black River Falls, where she had been a resident since March.

She was born Oct. 2, 1925 in Neillsville, to Albert and Lillian (Payne) Squires. She married Richard A. Matti on Nov. 30, 1946 at Saint Joseph’s Catholic Church in Fairview.

They operated Dick and Gerry’s Bar in Humbird for several years and the Lakeshore Club in Hixton for four years. Her husband died on Jan. 5, 1993. Her favorite pastimes included crocheting, cooking and reading. She was a member of the American Legion Auxiliary in Humbird.

Survivors include one son, Richard (Linda) Matti Jr., of Humbird, three daughter, Patricia (Vaughn) Hestekind of Humbird, Janice (Don) Matalas of Alma Center and Cynthia (Steven) Dressler of Beloit; two brothers, Fritz (Mary) Squires of Long View, WA, and Donavan (Joan) Squires of Arlington; two sisters, Wanda (Art) Schmidt of Rochester, Mn.; and Genevieve (John) Shanks of Lake Delton; 10 grandchildren and five great-grandchildren; besides many other relatives and friends.

Funeral services for Geraldine M. Matti were held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, July 10, at the Jensen-Modjeski Funeral Home in Hixton. The Rev. David Ziegelmaier officiated and burial took place in Mentor Cemetery. Friends called at the funeral home on Friday evening and on Saturday prior to services.

Casket bearers were Matthew Dressler, Paul Hestekind, Anthoni Matti and Casey Matti.
