Schmidtke, Esther E. (5 June 1899 - 7 Feb.1986)

Granton - Mrs. William (Esther E.) Schmidtke, 86, died early today at Neillsville Memorial Home.

Services will be at 11 a.m. Monday at United Methodist Church, Granton. The Rev. C. Arlene Denzer will officiate. Charlotte Drescher will be the organist and Donna Chase, soloist. Nephews will serve as pallbearers. Burial will be in Windfall Cemetery, Granton.

Visitation will be from 4-9 p.m. Sunday and Monday until 9:30 a.m. at Gilbertson Funeral Home, Granton, and then at the church until time of services.

The former Esther Welch was born June 5, 1899, in Spencer, the daughter of Anson and Mabel (Stevens) Welch. She attended Spencer area schools and teacher’s college. She taught in area schools.

She was married to William Schmidtke June 21, 1922, and has since lived in Granton. Her husband died Feb. 27, 1973.

She serviced on the Granton School Board for many years.

She was a member of the United Methodist church and the Royal Neighbors of America.

Surviving are one daughter, Beverly Eggeslton, Stanton, Calif.; four grandchildren; a brother, Rollo Welch, Clarksville, Tenn.; one sister, Mrs. Arlene Erickson, Rockford, Ill.; and several nieces and nephews.

Besides her husband, she was predeceased by her parents, one brother and a nephew, Gene Turner, whom they raised.
