Steitz, Margaretha (1828 - 20 JUL 1910)

On Wednesday afternoon, July 20th, 1910, Mrs. Margaretha Steitz died at St. Nicholas Hospital in Sheboygan at the advanced age of 83 years and 4 months. Mrs. Steitz had been in poor health for some time and on July 8th was taken to St. Nicholas Hospital at Sheboygan for treatment. She had been there but two days when she slipped and fell in her room, fracturing her left hip. Everything that medical skill could suggest was done for her but her old age and feeble health toiled against her and she gradually grew weaker until Wednesday when she died. Her relatives here were notified of her misfortune and went to Sheboygan. Her daughter, Mrs. Henry Rollmann, was with her most of the time after the accident until her death.

Deceased was born in Germany in 1828 and was married in her native home to George Steitz. In the early fifties they came to America, first settling at Milwaukee where they remained a short time and then moved to Fond du Lac. In 1870 they moved to Colby, Clark Co., Wis., where her husband, a veteran of Co. D. 48th Wisconsin Regiment, located. In 1902 her husband died, and amonth or so later she moved to this city and purchased a home on Spring St., where she lived with her son. The remains were taken to Colby from Sheboygan Friday morning and laid at rest in the family lot beside those of her husband.

She is survived by one daughter, Mrs. Henry Rollmann and two sons, George of this city and Albert of Seattle, Wash. (Chilton Times)

The funeral was held from the M.E. Church at 2 o’clock Friday afternoon, conducted by Rev. R. Prescott.
