Field, Ole (20 June 1848 - 7 June 1935)

Ole Field one of the old time "lumber jacks" of this community, died at the County Farm, Friday morning, June 7, having nearly reached the age of 87 years.

He was born in Norway, June 20, 1848, and came to this country when a young man. For a time he worked in Minnesota, and many years ago came to Clark County. He became quite an expert woodsman, for a time having charge of a road crew for Jack Parrett and for several winters was camp forman for Dave Wood. He bought forty acres of land in the Town of Hewett where he built a cabin and made a clearing; living alone there until two years ago when he became ill and was bought to Neillsville hospital. Gangrene set in one of his feet, making amputation necessary. He recovered quite completely, but being unable to take care of himself he was taken to the county farm.

It is said that he was married at St. Paul when he was a young man, his wife dying soon after his marriage. So far as known he had no relatives in this country.

Funeral services were held at the county home Sunday afternoon, Rev. G. W. Longenecker, officiating.
