Pettera, Dorothy E. (Marriage - 26 Feb. 1935)

Feb. 26, 1935, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church at Wauzeka, Wis., Rev. Fr. Bettinger spoke the words that united in marriage Dorothy E. Pettera, oldest daughter of Mr. and Mrs. George F. Pettera, to Emil H. Straka, second youngest son of Mr. and Mrs. Matt Straka.

Miss Irene and Matt Pettera, sister and brother of the bride, were their attendants. The bride wore a lovely white satin gown with a short train and lace top and wore a finger-tip length veil with pearl bandeau. She carried white roses and ferns.

The bridesmaid wore an ankle length silk crepe dress of Aquamarine blue and carried white roses, pine carnations and ferns.

The bridegroom wore a dark blue suit with the best man in grey.

After the ceremony and breakfast at the Hotel Turk, they went to Boscobel to have pictures taken, after which they returned to the home of the bride’s parents, where nearly 40 relatives had gathered in suite of the deep snow, following a blizzard on Sunday, for the wedding dinner and supper. In the evening a few neighbors dropped in and all enjoyed a dancing party. On account of bad roads, relatives all stayed until daylight, a regular old-fashioned wedding celebration.

Relatives from a distance were Mr. and Mrs. Leo Pettera of Livingston, J. M. Pettera, of Dodgeville; Mr. and Mrs. Frank Machotka and son, Ed., of Avoca; Mr. and Mrs. Frank Washa and two children of Castle Rock; Mrs. Wm. Rima sister of the bridegroom, from Savannah, Ill.

Guest also include Mrs. Matt Straka and son Rudolph; Mr. and Mrs. Ed Straka and children, Frank Lerdhal and sister, Mrs. Loren Geisles, and baby, Frank and Anton Pettera, Mr. and Mrs. Orie Reiger and Helen Rose.

They receive many beautiful and useful gifts. The newlyweds will be at home to their many friends on the farm adjoining that of her parents and which the bridegroom purchased from Anton Pettera, the bride’s grandfather, some time ago.
