Benedict, Sanford William (20 Nov. 1853 - 18 Jan. 1935)

Sanford William Benedict, son of Adonijah and Clarisan Benedict, was born in the Town of Eldorado, Fond du Lac County, Wis., Nov. 20, 1853, and died at his home near York Center, Wis., Jan. 18, 1935, aged 81 years, one month and 18 days.

He was married to Miss Margaret E. Lawrence on July 1, 1877, by Rev. Hendren. To this union were born three sons, William E., Merl H., and Rollie O., all of York Center, and one daughter, Mrs. Belle Smith, of Loyal, Wis. Mr. Benedict came to Clark County 62 years ago, when he was 19 years old, and has lived here ever since. That he was a highly respected citizen is indicated by the fact that he was the assessor for the Town of York for 35 years, and for two years was chairman of the York Town Board.

Besides those already mentioned he leaves to mourn his departing one brother, Charles H., of Walla Walls, Wash., also 10 grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren. He was a member of the York Center Methodist Episcopal Church, having united with that organization in August 1884.

Sunset and evening stars, and one clear call for me!

Andy may there be no moaning of the bar, when I put out to sea, but such a tide as moving seems a sleep, too full for sound and form, when That which drew from out the boundless deep turns again home.

Twilight and evening bell, and after that the dark!

And may there be no sadness or farewell, when I embark; for though from out our bourn of time and place, the flood may bear me far.

I hope to see my Pilot face to face when I have crossed the bar. - Tennyson.

The funeral services were held at the home near York Center Monday, Jan. 21, and interment was at the York Center Cemetery, Mr. Walter Nichols of Loyal, was the undertaker and Rev. Austin N. Chaplman, pastor of the Loyal and York Center Methodist Episcopal churches officiated.
