Prosser, James F. (13 FEB 1845 - 4 JUL 1906)

Frank Prosser, a resident of Colby, Clark Co., Wis. for the past thirty-three years, died at his home on Spence St., of heart disease, on Wednesday evening, July 4th, 1906, in the 62nd year of his age.

James Frank Prosser was born in Oswego Co., N.Y., Feb. 13th, 1845; he came with his parents to Wisconsin, Oct. 9th, 1855, and located in the town of Forest, Fond du Lac Co. Feb. 15th, 1864, he enlisted in Co. H 14th Regt. Wis. Vol. Infantry and was advanced to Corporal, he was mustered out Oct. 9th, 1865, and returned to Fond du Lac.

In 1873 he came to Colby and took up a homestead in the town of Hull, Marathon Co., where he resided about three years, then moved here and worked at his trade, that of a carpenter. He has been active in municipal affairs, having held the positions of city marshal and street commissioner and assessor. He has resided here continuously, with the exception of three years in Madison, where he served on Capitol police force. Since his return Frank ahs not been in good health, but was only confined to the house about three weeks prior to his death.

He leaves a widow and two children by his first wife, Roy E. of this city, and Cora, now Mrs. Howard Sylvester of Ipswich, S.D., and many other relatives to mourn his departure from this life. Hosts of friends will mourn and sympathize with them.

The funeral was held from the M.E. Church Friday afternoon, conducted by Rev. W.J. James, and was attended by Isaac N. Earl Post, 112, G.A.R., of which Frank was a member. Six of his old comrades acted as pallbearers. The remains were interred in Colby Cemetery.
