Collins, Thirza (27 JAN 1824 - 6 AUG 1898)

Died, at her residence in this city (Colby, Clark Co., Wis.), on Saturday evening, Aug. 6th, 1898, of heart failure, Thirza, beloved wife of Daniel W. Collins, in the 75th year of her age.

Thirza Martin was born in the County of Kent, England, Jan. 27th, 1824; she came with her parents to America when three years of age; the family located at Albany, N.Y., where they resided for some time then removed to Brooklyn, Long Island; she was united in marriage with Daniel W. Collins, Nov 24th, 1842; 1853 she came with her husband to Racine Co., Wis., where they settled in the town of Caledonia, about nine miles from the city of Racine; there they continued to reside for thirty years, until May 1883, when they came to this place, and have resided here since. For the past two years or more she has been an invalid, has suffered much, but has received every care that loving minds could devise or will hands perform.

Mrs. Collins was the mother of 4 children, 3 sons and 1 daughter, of which but one son, Willis, survives her, and who, with her aged and faithful husband, mourns the loss of an every loving mother and true wife. There remains besides, her brother, John Martin, the Racine architect, 4 grandchildren and 3 great-grandchildren.

During the years that Mrs. Collins has resided here she has made friends of all with whom she came in contact. Of late years she has not mingled much in society, owing to her infirmities. She was a most estimable and lovable woman and her memory will long be cherished by her acquaintances and friends, who will sincerely sympathize with the mourning husband, who has been her faithful consort for near 56 years.

The funeral was from the M.E. Church and interment in the Colby Cemetery, Rev. A.J. Davis, presiding elder of the district, officiating, assisted by Rev. S.A. Hoffman.

The good woman has left this vale of sorrow and tears and entered into eternal rest.
