68TH WEDDING ANNIVERSARY OBSERVED BY ROBERT VATERS

Mr. and Mrs. Robert Vater, former Withee residents, are at the ripe young age of 91 celebrating their 68th wedding anniversary on November 11th. They both are living with their daughter, Mrs. Ruth Moody, at Madison. Ruth reports that both are in fairly good health and her mother remarkably so, as she walks over to the store if she wishes to do some shopping and is alert and interested in everything that goes one. She enjoys reading and weaving pot holders. Mr. Vater's health is not quite so good, but he is up every day and enjoys going for rides and visiting his sons.

Mr. and Mrs.(nee Henrietta Schonesiegel) Robert Vater were married November 11, 1893, in a ceremony performed at Plymouth, Wisconsin. They moved to Withee in 1901. They have six children, Mrs. Ruth Moody, Madison; Mrs. Raymond (Alice) Jones, Randolph; Mrs. Norviel (Gladys) Woodburn, Elmhurst, Illinois; and Arno, Carl and Neil, all of Withee. They also have eight grandchildren and five great grandchildren.

Transcriber's note: I have heard the story that Robert and Henrietta arrived in Clark County at night. Looking out the train windows, Henrietta noticed what she believed were miles of fields of shocked corn. She was dismayed to discover in the morning light that they were tree stumps that she was seeing. The Plymouth area they had left behind was much more tamed and settled. Clark County didn't look especially inviting to her.
