Karpinske, Edwin W. (9 Feb. 1918 – 28 Nov. 2001)

Edwin W. Karpinske, 83, Colby, died on Wednesday, Nov. 28, 2001, at his residence.

Mr. Karpinske was born Feb. 9, 1918, in Stanley to William and Hazel (Brunno) Karpinske. In 1942, the enlisted in the US Army; serving as a paratrooper ranger during World War II. He received his honorable discharge in 1946. His marriage to the former Vera Esterling took place in Seattle, Wash., on Nov. 24, 1943.

He and his wife farmed in the town of Beaver for 34 years, before moving to Colby in 1980. He later worked for Figi’s, Marshfield, and the Clark County Health Care Center, Owen, Wis. For the past eight years, Mr. Karpinske was a nutrition driver for Meals on Wheels in the Abbotsford, Colby, and Unity area.

Mr. Karpinskie enjoyed painting and polka dancing. He served on the LaTart School Bus of Beaver Township and on the Zion UCC Immanuel Church board for 17 years. He was a member of the Loyal American Legion.

Survivors include one son, Verlan (Debbie) Karpinske, Appleton; one daughter, Evonne Karpinske, Eau Claire; two grandchildren; one great-grandchild; a brother, Ray Karpinske, Seattle; and special friend Cora Herrington, Marshfield.

He was preceded in death by his parents and his wife.

A memorial service with family and friends will be held in the spring. Inurnment will be at the Colby Memorial Cemetery.

Maurina Funeral Service, Abbotsford, assisted the family with arrangements.
