Waters, John (26 DEC 1847 - 23 Dec 1915)

Mr. John Waters was born in Eshborn, England, Dec. 26, 1847, and died at the home of S. H. Jones south of Humbird, Clark County, Wis., Dec. 23, 1915, lacking four days of being 68 years of age. Pneumonia was the cause of his death.

Mr. Waters was brought to America with his parents in infancy, and lived in Walworth until about thirty years of age. He then became a settler in Jackson Co., making his home in this neighborhood ever since, with the exception of a few years spent in South Dakota. For a year or more past his home has been with Mr. Jones.

The death of Mr. Waters removes another of the older residents of this neighborhood; passing away peacefully, as he had endeavored to live. And although fortune had not smiled very favorably upon his home life, yet Mr. Waters was a man respected and well liked by all who knew him intimately.

Burial services were held Monday afternoon at the M. E. Church in this village, Rev. A. R. Klein of Merrillan preaching the sermon, and the remains were laid to rest in the Houghtonburg Cemetery.

The deceased leaves to mourn his death trhee daughters, Mrs. Oscar Hilker of Sugar Bush, Mrs. Henry Stair of Waterford, Miss Hattie Waters of Hortonville; three sons, , Frank of Dutton, Mont., John of West Hope, N.D., Albert of Alma Center; also one sister and one brother living at Geneva, and one brother, Zenda. All sons and daughters, excepting Frank Waters and Mrs. Stair were in attendance at the funeral services.
