Johnson, James W. (5 JUN 1832 - 15 Jul 1908)

After an illness dating back to the early part of last winter, James Wilson Johnson passed peacefully to the beyond at an early hour Wednesday morning. For twenty-three years Mr. Johnson had lived in this vicinity (Humbird, Clark County, Wis.) and was respected by all who knew him. He was an earnest member of the M. E. Church and took a leading part in its workings until infirmities brought on by advancing age curtailed to an extent his activities.

Mr. Johnson was a native of the Quaker State, born in Erie Co. June 5, 1832. He was married to Miss Lydia A. Willard in that state in 1854 and moved to Wisconsin in the fall of the same years. Until 1885 they made their residence at Hixton and then came to Humbird, where they since made their home. Mr. Johnson was called to mourn the death of his aged helpmate about a year ago and from that time until late last spring he lived with his son Henry at Osseo. He was then brought back home and during his last days was faithfully attended by his son George.

Of a large family born to Mr. and Mrs. Johnson, but three sons survive: George, J. Cole and Henry, the latter now living in North Dakota.

The funeral services will be held this afternoon at the M. E. Church and the remains will be interred in the Pole Grove Cemetery at Hixton.
