Schumacher, Maria M. (24 Jan 1838 - 27 Apr 1908)

The funeral of Mrs. John Schumacher was held from the M. E. Church Thursday afternoon and the interment was in the Mentor Cemetery. Rev. John Schroerer, of Stratford, pastor of the Reformed Church, conducted the services. There was a large congregation of friends and neighbors present to pay a last tribute to the deceased. The casket and pulpit were covered with beautiful floral designs, the loving gift of her many friends.

Maria Margaret Schumacher (nee Allwardt) was born Jan. 24, 1838, in the Grand Duchy of Mecklenberg, Germany. She was married to John Schumacher in 1865. They came to this country in 1869 and settled in Watertown, Wis., where they remained until 1883, when they moved to this place (Humbird, Clark County, Wis.) and located on a farm northeast of town, where they continued to reside until about a year ago, when they sold their farm to their youngest son and removed to this village. She died April 27, 1908, at the home of their son-in-law Mr. George Barkley. She leaves besides her aged husband, six children, all married and living in this neighborhood, with the exception of the oldest daughter, Mrs. Jankowski, who resides in Merrill. Two children died in infancy. She also leaves one brother and one sister, both of Watertown, Wis.

Among those attending the funeral from away were Henry Schumacher and wife and Joseph Bush of Rock Co.; John Bush of Columbia Co.; and Miss Bertha Allwardt of Watertown, Wis.

Thanks SO much for this particular obit. This is my g-g-grandmother's obit that I've been waiting for. It gave me more important info that I didn't have. I just wish it would've said her parent's first names. Oh well; can't have everything . I'll anxiously await John's obit when you get around to entering data from 1910 and later (I have no death date for him yet).

Thanks again for all the hard work you're doing for Clark Co. descendants! Anita
