Kasken, Gertrude (4 Sep 1914 - 27 Jan 1947)

Gertrude Kasken, nee Gertrude Nieminen, was born Sept. 4, 1914, on the farm two miles south of Clark in the town of Hixon, Clark County, Wis. She passed away in her sleep the night of Jan. 27, 1947.

She attended grade school at Witlow Dale and graduated from the Withee High School with the class of 1931. She received her teachers training at Eau Claire and Superior State Teachers Colleges.

For the past 13 years she has taught in Riplinger, Sterling and the last eight years at Pineland School.

She leaves to mourn her husband, Myron Kasken, to whom she was married on June 20, 1942, her parents, Mr. and Mrs. John Nieminen of Lake Worth, Fla., two sisters, Mrs. Tyrnie Braga of Chicago, Ill, and Mrs. Martie (Vieno) Keskimaki of Withee. Her niece, Carol and nephews, Klay and Dale will be among the many children whose memory will be enriched by having known her loving kindness and gentle manner.

She will be missed by many relatives, friends and neighbors, who knew her during her lifetime in this community, aunts and uncles, Mr. and Mrs. Otto Santala, Withee, and Mr. and Mrs. Frank Laiho, Massachusetts.

Services were conducted by Rev. C. S. Matthews Monday afternoon, Feb 3rd, at two o'clock from the Griebenow Funeral Home. Interment was made in the Riverside Cemetery. Three Marking sisters, Bonnie, Harriet and Eunice sang several of the deceased favorite hymns. Pallbearers were, Wallace Dobrzynski, Wallace Wood, Benhardt Hill, Eugene Santala, Lawrence Munson and Laurie Keskimaki.

Flower girls were, Mrs. Wallace Dobrzynski, Mrs. Joseph Zielinski, Mrs. Al Prock, Lorraine Milewski, Helen Ratajczyk, Janet Bartosewicz, Sylvia Petrulis and Adeline Bartosewicz. The Enterprise was unable to learn the names of two other flower girls that were members of the student body at Pineland school, where Mrs. Kasken taught.
