Hubert D. Graves, 86, has been interred in the parish cemetery at York Center. Final rites for him were held Tuesday afternoon at the York Center Methodist church, with the Rev. Lee Holmes officiating. Mr. Graves was locally known for his public service as clerk of the town of York and clerk of school district No. 1, town of York, Lincoln school. He had held the position of town clerk for 13 years, and was known for his accurate and painstaking work in town affairs. In this service he had the help of his son, Dwight, who lived with him in the town of York. Mr. Graves lived in Clark County since 1901, having moved from Calumet county. It was in Calumet county that he married Ella Shell, the mother of his children. He had come to Wisconsin from the state of New York, where he was born July 12, 1863. Mr. Graves is survived by two children, Ethel and Dwight, both of whom resided with him. His wife died 15 years ago. A daughter and a brother had also died before him. In recent years Mr. Graves had been in delicate health and was obligated to limit his activities, but he had continued to the end his service as town and school clerk. Mr. Graves died in St. Joseph's hospital, Marshfield, last Friday. His body lay in state at the Gilbertson funeral home, Granton, until Tuesday noon, when it was taken to the York Center church. There it lay in state until 2 o'clock, the hour of the funeral. Pallbearers were: Otto Warren, George Hales, Loren Hales, Herbert Free, L. Fancher and Emil Henniger.
