Peterson, Clark (26 Apr 1851 - 7 Mar 1927)

Clark Peterson, highly respected citizen of the town of Hoard, Clark County, Wis., was born in Valters, Norway in 1851. He immigrated to America with his parents at the age of sixteen years, coming to Winona, Minn. Many of his early years were spent in the vicinity of Eau Claire, Wis. It was here, in 1879, that he was united in holy matrimony to Lena Lee, who preceded him in death eight years ago.

In the Spring of 1894, he moved his family from Badger Mills, Wis. to Owen. Here he was employed by the J. S. Owen Lumber Co. until 1900, when he took up his residence on a farm near Curtiss, Clark County. A few years ago he retired from active life as a farmer, disposing of his interests to his son Charles.

Mr. Peterson was an earnest Christian man. He was converted to the faith of the Methodist Episcopal Church at Eau Claire, Wis., about forty years ago, since which time he has persisted in the belief that a haven of rest and redemption awaited him. Perhaps his religion, in a practical manner, is best summed up by the characteristic way in which he revealed his friendliness and spirit of good will. He was an ideal neighbor, at all times willing to go out of his path to aid others.

His last declining years were spent with his daughter, Mrs. Robert Nissen, Owen, Wis. Two years ago his health began to decline when he was attacked by a stroke of paralysis. He recovered sufficiently to enjoy for some of the time the hospitality of his children. Two weeks ago, he was more afflicted with the same ailment, and left in a more or less state of coma. Death followed this last stroke, and he passed away peacefully at 2:00 o'clock p.m., March 7, 1927. His remains will be laid to rest beside those of his wife at Riverside Cemetery.

He leaves to mourn his loss forever his children, Clara, Mrs. Robert Nissen, Charles and Otto; A sister, Mrs. Ole Arneson; a brother, Albert and two grandchildren.
