Frances Butek

Frances C. Butek, 90, Thorp, died on Manday, Aug. 11, 2003 at Oakbrook Health and Rehab., Thorp. Funeral services were held at 10: 30 a.m. on Thursday, Aug. 14 at St. Bernard - St. Hedwig's Catholic Church, Thorp. The Rev. John Puerner officiated. Burial was in St. Hedwig's Cemetery. Pallbearers were Chris Butek, Philip Valek, Brian Valek, Michael Valek, Jeff Seubert, and Bill Nolecheck, Jr.

Frances C. Wolowik was born on Aug. 18, 1912 near Thorp, to Anton and Mary (nee Sadowski) Wolowik. She attended the Oakland school south of Thorp. After her education, she worked in Milwaukee and Chicago. She married William T. Butek on April 14, 1940, at St. Boniface Catholic Church, Chicago. They returned to Wisconsin and farmed near Huron. They later purchased and operated Butek's Wink Inn Bar and Restaurant northeast of Thorp. In 1950, they moved to Thorp. She worked at the Auto Cafe in Thorp for more than 20 years, Skogmos Department Store, and Nolecheck's Meat market. She was a member of the Oakland Homemakers, and the CCW at St. Bernard - St. Hedwig's Catholic Church.

Survivors include two sons, Bill (Linda) Butek, Jr., Rancho Cucamonga, Calif., and Bob (Roberta) Butek, Cottage Grove, Minn.; one daughter, Bettie (Emery) Valek, Naperville, Ill.; five grandchildren, Michael (Maribeth) Valek, Brian (Sarah) Valek, Philip (Diana) Valek, Chris (Gina) Butek, and Jennifer (Jeff) Seubert; seven great-grandchildren; one sister, Helen (Ted) Papierniak; and nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends.

Preceding her in death were her parents; her husband Bill, on Aug. 30, 1980; four brothers, Walter, Bill, Steve, and Eddie; and two sisters, Mary Norysewicz, and Harriet Simko.

Thorp Funeral Home assisted the family with arrangements.
