Powers, Charles R. (Nov 1853 - 8 Jul 1925)

Charles R. Powers, one of the most prominent farmers in northern Clark County, Wis., died yesterday afternoon at his farm home, one mile east of the city (Owen, Clark County). He had suffered a heart attack, and was found by his son, Elvin, shortly after he had passed away, in one of the out buildings on the farm.

Mr. Powers had been in seemingly good health for several days, and had mentioned earlier in the day that he might go fishing in the afternoon. The attack came without warning, and he showed no signs of having suffered any pain. Earlier in the year he was a victim of the flue, and since then he has been ailing with heart trouble, but at no time was it thought serious. For the past ten or more years he has not been actively engaged with the farm work, but turned the management over to his two sons, Elwin and Reuben, he doing only a little work in the garden and assisting at times with the chores.

Mr. Powers was 71 years and 8 months of age and came to Owen with his family seventeen years ago from Menomonie and since that time has developed one of the finest farms in this section of the state. He was a large breeder of pure bred guernsey cattle, and was prominent throughout the county in all activities leading to the breeding of better livestock.

He leaves to mourn his wife, two sons, Elwin and Reuben, and two daughters, Mrs. Thomas J. Haas of Longwood township and Mrs. Julius Johnson of this city, and one sister, Mrs. Eugene Cummings of Menomonie.

Funeral services will be held tomorrow afternoon at the home and at 2:30 o'clock the body will be taken to the Congregational Church for services. Rev. Waltz, pastor of the Methodist Church at Menomonie and Rev. W. P. Powell, pastor of the Congregational Church, officiating. Interment will take place in Riverside Cemetery.

Those from away who have come to attend the funeral are: Mr. and Mrs. Eugene Cummings, Mr. and De Jestin Cummings and Mr. and Mrs. Charles Harshmann, all of Menomonie. The bereaved family has the heartfelt sympathy of a great many friends in Owen and Clark County in the loss of their husband and father.
