HENRY SCHLICHTER 1859-1938

Henry Schlichter passed away at his home in Fairchild at 8:30 P.M. February 4, 1938. Death being due to the complications of old age.

He was the son of Nick and Margaret Schlichter, born at Waukesha in 1859. At the age of six years the family moved to Neillsville, later settling on a farm 1 ½ miles south of Fairchild in the town of Cleveland. Here he grew to manhood and was united in marriage to Elizabeth Maves on April 14, 1886. To this union 11 children were born, 10 of which survive. Their first years were spent in Eau Claire later moving to a farm in the town of Cleveland where they resided up until 15 years ago when they moved into Fairchild.

When living in the town of Cleveland he was town treasurer for 15 years, assessor for 2 years from which position he had to resign because of ill health. He was also assessor in the village up until two years ago when he could no longer do the work.

He leaves his widow and ten children; Ida Hardtke, Plainview, Minn.; John Birch Island, B.C.; Henry and Clarence of Seattle; Lloyd, Humbird; Fred, Fairchild; Ray, Eau Claire; Carrie Locke, Orlando, Flo.; Frank, Marshfield; Anna Yule at home. Also 29 grand children, 9 great grand children, 1 sister and 2 brothers, a number of nieces and nephews. Five sisters and one brother preceded him in death.

He was a kind and loving husband and father and a good friend to all who knew him.

Those from out of town here to attend the funeral were: Mr. and Mrs. Ray Knochway, Mr. Louis Chransfeldter, Bloomer, Mrs. Anna Sleeter, Mr. and Mrs. Chris O'Driscalf, Mr. and Mrs. Ray Schlichter and daughters, Hildgarde Schlichter of Eau Claire, Mr. and Mrs. Frank Schlichter, Mr. Serchen of Marshfield, Mr. and Mrs. Frank Pier, Jack and Leo Keefer of Tomah, John Sleeter of Antigo.

Pallbearers were: Lloyd, Fred, Ray, Frank and Leonard Schlichter and George Yule. Services were held at St. Joseph's Catholic Church at Fairview, burialbeing in that cemetery.
