Umhoefer, Mrs. Paul (16 Feb 1862 - 30 Augl 1929)

Mrs. Paul Umhoefer died at her home here (Colby, Wis.) Friday, Aug. 30, 1929, at 1:45 a.m., complications of diseases being the cause of her departure to the distant shore. Funeral services were held Monday morning at St. Mary's Catholic Church, Rev. H. A. Lachnit officiating, and interment was made in the Colby Catholic Cemetery.

The deceased was born at Leroy, Wis., Feb. 16, 1862, thus reaching the age of sixty-seven years, six months and fourteen days. She came to Colby fifty years ago and clerked in the Booth store for about two years, when on July 26, 1881, she was married to Paul Umhoefer and moved to a place five and one-half miles east of Colby, where Mr. Umhoefer conducted a saw mill, flour mill, store and a post office. This place was later named Cherokee by Mr. Umhoefer. In 1903, the Umhoefers moved to Colby, where Mr. Umhoefer conducted a saw mill for several years.

Besides her husband, her death is mourned by four children, five brothers, five sisters, and five grandchildren. The children are Mr. Anton Umhoefer, Mrs. Ed Bartik and Miss Tessie Umhoefer, all of Colby; and Mr. Emil Umhoefer of Marshfield. The sisters and brothers are Mike Weix, Laurence Weix, John Weix, Mrs. Paul Firnstahl, all of Colby; Xavier Weix of Oconomowoc; Mrs. Andrew Oschner and Mr. Martin Weix of Leroy; Mrs. John Roller, Mrs. John Budde and Mrs. John Welsch of Beaver Dam. One brother, Joe Weix, and one sister, Mrs. Henry Schraufnagle, Sr., preceded her to the Great Beyond.

Mrs. Umhoefer always had been a faithful member of the Catholic Church and Christian Mother's Society. She was numbered among the early pioneers of this community and her fine Christian character, her cheerful and beautiful devotion as wife and mother, and her kindness to everybody will linger long as a fragrant memory in the home which her presence brightened and which death has now darkened.

The out of town relatives here for the funeral were Mr. and Mrs. John Roller and sons, Roman and Baldwin, Mr. and Mrs. John Budde, George Budde, Gerhard Budde, Mrs. John Welsch, Mr. and Mrs. Henry Pecheck, Mr. and Mrs. Joe Voreck and son, Albert, all from Beaver Dam, Wis.; Mr. and Mrs. Andrew Oschner, Clarence Oschner, Mr. and Mrs. Martin Weix, all from Oconomowoc, Wis.; Mr. John Umhoefer, Mr. and Mrs. Henry Umhoefer, Mrs. Joseph Umhoefer and daughter, Martha, Mr. and Mrs. Wm.
