Miller, Sophia (13 FEB 1842 - 16 Mar 1929)

Mrs. Johschim Miller, a resident of the town of Green Grove, Clark County, Wis. for the past forty-four years, quietly and peacefully passed on to the heavenly goal alst Saturday morning, March 16, 1929, old age being the cause of her demise. Funeral services were held on Tuesday, March 19th, at the Green Grove Lutheran Church, Rev. Goetsch officiating, and interment made in the Green Grove Cemetery. She was 87 years, 1 month and 3 days old at the time of her death.

Sophia Polkow Miller was born Feb. 13, 1842, in Germany in the village of Cieslip, Province Mecklenburg Schwerien, where she was instructed and reared in the Christian faith. She was married to Johschim Miller in 1868, which union was blessed with twelve children. Her father and six children died in Germany and she, her husband, children and mother came tot he U. S. in 1885, coming directly to the town of Green Grove, where they settled on the Decken farm, and where the deceased lived until the death of her husband eight years ago, after which she made her home with her youngest son, John. During the past seven years, she was afflicted with various ailments, and finally became blind and defective in hearing. Her mother is also at rest in the Green Grove Cemetery.

She leaves to mourn her departure three sons and three daughters, namely: Mr. Friederick Miller, Sr., Curtiss; Mr. Joachim Miller, Green Grove; Mrs. Lena Ebert, Colby; John Miller, Green Grove; Mrs. Freda Rahn, Green Grove; Mrs. Ann Sommer, Spencer. Also fourteen grandchildren and sixteen great-grandchildren.

She always was a faithful and sincere member in good standing of the congregation at Green Grove, and after a long, busy and useful life, she died as she lived, honored, trusted and loved.

The out of town people here for the funeral were Mr. and Mrs. John Bandow and Mrs. Anna Borchert of Neenah, Mr. and Mrs. Frederick Brown, Mr. Albert Liebzeit, Mr. Albert Marquardt, Mrs. Gust Meinholdt, and Mr. and Mrs. Will Laabs of Greenwood; and Mr. and Mrs. Walter Stoker of Thorp.
