Hansen, Jens (15 JAN 1850 - 13 Jul 1923)

Jens Hansen was born in Christiana, Norway Jan. 15, 1850. In 1880 he came to America, settling in Marseilles, Illinois. In 1882 he was united in marriage to Mary Anderson.

Six children were born to them, three of who died in infancy and Charles who died in France in 1918.

In 1885 he united with the Baptist Church and has since then lived a Christian life. In 1898 he and his family moved to Dorchester, Clark County, Wis., where he resided until 1911, when he moved to Abbotsford and has made this his home until the time of his death July 13, 1923 at the age of 73 years, 5 months and 28 days.

Death came very sudden as he was sick only one week and had worked his own farm until three weeks previous to his death.

He leaves to mourn his death a wife and two daughters, Jessie and Mrs. Mabel Berry, three grandchildren and a large circle of friends.

Funeral services were held from the Presbyterian Church at 3:00 Sunday afternoon with Rev. Lucas of Colby officiating. Interment was made in the Baptist Cemetery of Dorchester.

The pallbearers were Oscar Phaneuf, J. P. Olson, J. A. Olson, August Strebe, Charles Carlson and A. J. Calkins.

Those from out of town who attended the funeral were: Mr. and Mrs. O. A. Hanson of Minneapolis, Mr. and Mrs. Andrew Lyden and son of Chisago City, Minn., Mr. and Mrs. John Berry of Dorchester, Mrs. A. Nelson and daughters, Myra and Eunice of Dorchester, Charles Lindbol of Stetsonville and Mrs. Elizabeth Becker of Chicago.
