J. H. Thayer and company have employed Miss Anna Osborn as a clerk in their store. Employment of a lady clerk is something new in this city, and a move in the right direction, and one that should be furthered by other merchants.

At the adjourned term of the Circuit Court for this county, held at the Court House in this city to-day, Thos. McGrath, who has been confined in the county jail for several months past, charged with outraging the person of a nine-year old girl, pleaded guilty to assault with intent to commit rape, and was sentenced to five years in the State Prison.

Burt Clarke, of La Crosse, will arrive in this city next Saturday morning with fourteen horses, suitable for lumbering purpose, to sell to the lumbermen in this vicinity.

E. F. Long, Surgeon Dentist, will be at Neillsville, Wis, from Nov. 13 till Nov. 20, 1882. Office with B. F. French.
