Lueloff, Gottfried (11 Feb 1828 - 3 Mar 1919)

Gottfried Lueloff died at the home of his son, Fred, in this city (Colby, Wis.), on Monday morning, March 3, 1919, at the advanced age of 91 years.

Mr. Lueloff was born in Prussia, Germany, Feb. 11, 1828, and came to America in Oct. 1852, and took up farming in the town of Mosel, Sheboygan Co., Wis. After a number of years Mr. Lueloff sold this place and moved to Kiel, where he ran a hotel for about ten years. About twenty years ago he came to Colby, and with his two sons, Theodore and Fred, established the Colby Marble Works, which proved to be a good investment and the business has grown to be one of the chief enterprises of the city of Colby.

Mr. Lueloff was the father of eight children: August of Jackson, Wis., Ed of Kiel, Herman of Brillion, Mrs. John Keenan of Mellen, Fred of this city, Theodore, William and Mrs. Otto Langjahr, the last three having preceded their father to the Great Beyond. His wife died Dec. 3, 1917.

Mr. Lueloff was an agreeable and honest old gentleman and since coming to Colby has enjoyed the respect and friendship of all our citizens. He had been in rugged health until about a year ago, when his mind became affected and since that time his whole system has been on the decline. However, he has lived a long life of usefulness and it can be said that he goes to his last resting place with a record of having wronged no man.

The funeral was held from St. John's Evangelical Church in this city this afternoon at 2 o'clock, Rev. M. Peper officiating and his remains were laid to rest in the family lot in the Colby Cemetery.
