Patrick, Edgar L. (20 OCT 1892 - OCT 1918)

The casualties are coming home to Clark County, Wis. stronger every day but the victims have not been slain by shot or shell, but taken by the dread disease Spanish influenza.

This week it falls to our lot to chronicle the sad news that one of Unity's best young men has been called, Edgar Lawrence Patrick, son of Mrs. William Patrick, the father having passed away eleven years ago.

Deceased was born Oct. 20, 1892 in the town of Greenbush, Sheboygan Co., Wis. and had reached the age of twenty-six years. In Jan. 1902 his parents moved to Unity, Wis., where has has since made his home. Six years ago he entered the employ of the Unity bank and had up to the time of leaving for military duty acquired the position of assistant cahsier, which duties he had at all times faithfully filled.

Besides his mother he leaves to mourn his death two sisters, the Misses Essie and Katherine and one brother, William, all of who are home. William received his call to report for army duty Monday, but has been granted an extension of time of time in order to enable him to be present at burial services.

Private Patrick was called to the colors June 27th and was sent to Fort Riley, Kansas, where he began his training. Later he was transferred to Camp Leavenworth, Kansas, where he had been stationed up to the time of his death.

The remains arrived at Unity Wednesday afternoon and were taken charge of by undertaker Lulloff, who removed them to the home where they lay in state until this morning.

Funeral services were held this morning at 10:00 o'clock from St. Mary's Catholic Church, Father Lachnit officiating. The Colby Home Guards attended in a body, but only immediate relatives were allowed inside the church to lessen the risk of further spreading influenza. Burial services were conducted at the Colby St. Mary's Catholic Cemetery, the body being laid to rest beside that of his father.

Deceased was a member of the C. O. F. for the past six years and has always been an earnest worker for both church and lodge.
