Holeton, Mr./Mrs. G. W. (Gold Anniv - 4 Apr 1917)

On Sunday, Aug. 26, 1917, Mr. and Mrs. G. W. Holeton celebrated the fiftieth anniversary of their wedding, the event having been postponed from last April on account of the illness of Mrs. Holeton at that time.

Mr. and Mrs. Holeton were married at Niles, Ohio, April 4, 1867, and moved to Wisconsin in 1871, where they resided on their homestead in the town of Holeton (which was named after him), Marathon Co. up to 1910, since which time they have lived in Abbotsford, Wis.

As the party was about to be seated at the bountiful repast, the groom appeared in his well preserved wedding suit. Mrs. Holeton was becomingly attired in white voile and wore a corsage bouquet of lavender sweet pears. She was attended by her sister, Mrs. Eva Homsted, and her little granddaughters, Mary and Elizabeth Holeton.

All the children of the family were present, as follows: R. C. Holeton, wife and daughter of the town of Holeton; Mrs. L. M. Cole of Decatur, Ill.; George R. Holeton, wife and four children of Olds, Alberta, Canada; and Mrs. S. A. Jerdee of Arkdale, Wis.

Mrs. Homsted was also present at the wedding fifty years ago.

Mr. and Mrs. Holeton were among the earliest settlers in this part of Wisconsin, and have seen it develop from a wilderness to its present excellent state.

Mr. Holeton served four years and two months in the Civil War, being a member of Co. E. 23rd Ohio Volunteer Infantry.

The well preserved state of this couple speaks well of their hardihood and good living.

I live in Appleton Wisconsin. My father is Joseph Holeton and grandfather was Raymond Thomas Holeton (legally changed from Thomas Raymond) Great grand father was Thomas Raymond Holeton. I wonder if theirs is a family connection?

Mike, We are volunteers that are entering Clark County historical information from old county newspapers to this website. Sorry, but I do not have any connection to the Holeton family. If you do have any family information you would be willing to share on the website, we would love to add it. Thanks!  Stan Schwarze
