Wicker, Adelaide A. (11 Jan 1832 - 1 Jul 1917)

In the death of Mrs. Adelaide A. Wicker, which occurred Sunday night July 1, 1917, the community lost one who has always had the respect and esteem of all. Our little city (Colby, Wis.) and its hospitable people ever held a warm corner in her heart, and it was here that the best days of her life were spent. Her Christian life was beautiful from its beginning to its close and through all the vicissitudes and sorrows that she met in the way her kindness and smile for all was always apparent. After a long and useful life she died as she had lived, honored, trusted and loved.

Adelaide Asenath Ives was born in Chenango, Co., N.Y., Jan. 11, 1832, which makes her age at the time of her death 85 years, 5 months and 20 days. Her young girlhood was spent in New York and Connecticut. On Aug. 7, 1857, she was united in marriage to James D. Wicker, who preceded her to the grave on Feb. 6, 1897. Immediately after their marriage they came west to Horicon, Wis., where they lived for about one year, returning to New York and residing in Williambsurg (now Brooklyn) and Tarrytown. In 1872 they removed to Iowa, where they remained for about one year. In the fall of 1874 they moved to Wisconsin to a homestead in the town of Hull, Marathon, Co., removing to this city eleven years later, which has been her home ever since.

She was the mother of six children, three of who are still living, Mrs. J. C. Enright of St. Paul, Howard Wicker of Parrish, Wis., and E. L. Wicker of this city. Besides her immediate family she is survived by eight grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.

The funeral was held from the M. E. Church in this city Tuesday afternoon, July 3, Rev. A. L. Scherry of the Reformed Church, officiating. The W. R. C., of which the deceased was a charter member, attended in a body.

Those from out of town attending the funeral were Mrs. J. C. Enright of St. Paul and Howard Wicker of Parrish.
