Hutchins, Hariett (7 Augl 1823 - 13 JUN 1914)

Mrs. Hariett Hutchins passed away at the home of her son, R. E. Hutchins of the town of Unity, Clark County, Wis., on Saturday June 13, 1914, at five o'clock in the afternoon at the advanced age of 91 years, 11 months and 25 days.

She was born Aug. 7, 1823 in the town of Scruple, Onondaga Co., N.Y. She was a daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Ransom Vangilder. She was married to Alburn Hutchins of Syracuse, N.Y., in 1843, and came to Wisconsin with her family by way of the Great Lakes in 1854, landing at Sheboygan, from where the family mended their way through the dense forest to the town of Auburn, Fond du Lac Co., Wis., where they took up their home near what at that time was Cronchville, which later became New Castle. Later the family settled near New Prospect in the same township, where Mrs. Hutchins lived up to 1897. When she took up her home with her son, R. E. Hutchins of the town of Unity, Clark County, where she lived up to the time of her death. Her husband preceded her in death July 19, 1861.

The surviving relatives are one son, R. E. Hutchins of the town of Unity and one daughter, Mrs. Martha Gudex of the town of Eden, Fond du Lac Co., Wis., besides two brothers and three sisters and 22 grandchildren as follows: James Vangilder of Big Rapids, Mich., Oren Vangilder, Wausau, Wis., Mrs. Elmira Cole of Michigan, Mrs. Henry Bullard and Caroline Harrington of Bradley, S.D.

The funeral was held on Tuesday June 16th from the residence of her son, R. E. Hutchins, interment took place in the Loyal Cemetery in the village of Loyal. The pallbearers were her three grandsons, W. E., O. D. and C. R. Hutchins, and Henry Nichols. Rev. Dix of Spencer officiated. Those who attended the funeral from afar were Mr. and Mrs. L. Gudex of the town of Eden, Fond du Lac Co., Wis.
