Allen, Isaac N. (6 JUN 1840 - Jul 1913)

One of our oldest citizens passed away at 8 o'clock last Thursday night when Isaac N. Allen died. He had been suffering for months from a rupture of the heart, but had been about the streets as usual the previous evening.

His funeral services took place at the M. E. Church at 2:30 Sunday afternoon and were conducted by Rev. W. S. Gordon, the interment being in Belle Passi Cemetery.

He leaves a widow and three children to mourn his departure. The children are Eliza Jane, a married daughter, who resides in Kansas; Pearley Belle, who lives at home and Charles Newton of Eugene.

Mr. Allen was born June 6, 1840, in Trumbull Co., Ohio, and was 13 days past 73 years of age at the date of his death.

His parents moved to Dodge Co., Wis., when he was five years old, and he lived with them on the farm until 1862, when he enlisted in Company I, 29th Wis., in which he served until the close of the war in 1865. He was present at the battle of Gettysburg, but incapacitated by sickness from taking part in it.

After the war he moved up into the wilds of Clark County, Wis., where he took up a homestead on which he lived for 38 years. May 24, 1868 he married Miss Elizabeth Peep who survives him.

In 1903 he came out to Oakland, Oregon, where he lived for two years; then moved to Woodburn, where he has made his home for the past eight years.

Mr. Allen united with the Methodist Church when 11 years of age. He was a man of temperate habits. He was of more than usual intelligence, a good Bible student and an interesting conversationalist.
