Barker, Mrs. George W. (28 FEB 1836 - 13 FEB 1910)

Died, at her home in this village (Loyal, Clark County, Wis.) on Sunday, Feb. 13, 1910, at five o'clock in the morning, just with the awakening life of a new day, Mrs. George W. Barker, at the age of seventy-three years.

The deceased was born in Erie Co., N.Y., on Feb. 28, 1836, and had she lived a few days longer would have been seventy-four years old. She came to Wisconsin in 1844 with her parents, who settled on a farm near Waupun. On March 4, 1853, she was married to George W. Barker. In 1868 they came to Clark County, Wis. and took up a homestead in the town of Beaver, when everything was wilderness and where this village now stands there was only a blazed section line. She lived on this homestead for twenty years and then moved to this village, where she lived until her death.

She was a charter member of the Royal Neighbors, and also the Relief Corps and was always a faithful worker of these organizations when able to do so.

All the care and love of skilled physicians and an anxious household could devise and apply for her comfort and assistance were brought into play, but the fiat of Him who rules our incomings and outgoings had been issued and after a brief struggle, despite prayers and the entreaties of all who knew and loved here, their appeals were overruled and before the beautiful Sunday mroning, Feb. 13th, was kissed by the rising sun, the sufferer's spirit took its flight to that home the Christian believes is the fulfillment of the life everlasting. Life will never be quite the same to those who knew her, while those who were nearest to her will long for her with unutterable longings, long for a mother's counsel and advice, and a wife's gentle and loving sympathy.

She leaves to mourn her loss a husband, a son, Frank, of Kansas City, Mo., and a daughter, Mrs. Fred Darton of this village.

The funeral services were held at the M. E. Church in this village yesterday afternoon at half past one, and the remains laid to rest by the side of her youngest daughter in the Greenwood, Clark County Cemetery.
