Borden, Mrs. Ebenezer (27 May 1838 - 18 OCT 1909)

Died, at her home on the outskirts of this village (Loyal, Clark County, Wis.) on Monday morning, Oct. 18, 1909, at eight o'clock in the evening, Mrs. E. Borden at the age of 71 years, 4 months and 21 days, of apoplexy.

The deceased had not been feeling well during the day, having trouble with her heart. Shortly before eight o'clock on the evening of the day of her death she arose and got a piece of bread and butter and a cup of tea. She ate a little of it, when she made the remark that she did not think it was agreeing with her stomach and retired to her bedroom and in fifteen minutes she died.

She was born in Canada on May 27, 1838, and went to Hartford, Wis. in 1846, left there for Iron Ridge in 1848 and in 1857 went to Irvin, Jackson Co., Wis., where she was married to E. Borden and lived there about three years. They moved onto the present farm in 1861 and lived there up to the time of her death.

Our little village and its hospitable people ever held a warm corner in her heart. It was here the best days of her life were spent, and when her last hour came and the god of Eternity called her to her everlasting rest, it was her desire that she be laid to rest in our Silent City. The deceased was the mother of a large family, many of who now have "silver threads among the gold" as a reminder that they too, are nearing life's sunset. No one was more willing to aid the suffering, cheer the despondent, and sustain the weak, and when death came to her, as it comes to us all, neighbors and friends vied with each other in acts of loving kindness and tender solicitude.

She leaves to mourn her loss, a husband and four sons, Wyatt from here, William of New Port, Oregon, Herbert of Bertha, Minn., Norman of Buckley, Wash., and five daughters, Mrs. Ruth Smith of Bath, S. D., Mrs. Marion Cook from here, Mrs. Myron Nichols of Waupaca, Mrs. Edna Vickery of Black Duck, Minn., Mrs. Florence Cowles of Red Lake Falls, Minn.

The funeral services will be held at the M. E. Church on Friday morning at half past ten and the remains laid to rest in the M. E. Cemetery.
