Helen Petrusczak

Helen Petrusczak, age 83, of Thorp, died at Oakbrook Health and Rehab on Monday, August 27, 2001.

Funeral services were held at 10:30 a.m. on Thursday, August 30, 2001, at Holy Assumption Orthodox Church in Lublin. Father Ted Wojcik officiated and burial followed in Holy Assumption Orthodox Cemetery. Pallbearers were: Tom Dubiak, Andy Kalnins, Robert Stopka, John Zdanowski, Steve Petrusczak and Donal Kaczmarek. Visitation was held at Thorp Funeral Home on Wednesday, August 29, 2001 from 4:00 - 8:00 p.m. with the Panikhida service at 7:30 p.m.

Helen Kornatowski was born on July 5, 1918, in Evanston, IL, to Francis and Frances (Larek) Kornatoski. She was raised and educated in Evanston, graduating from Evanston Township High School. She then moved to California, where she met and married James Doose on September 11, 1938. They later divorced. On August 18, 1951, Helen was united in marriage to Peter Petrusczak in Roswell, NM. They moved to Chicago, where her husband was an accountant for many years. After her husband’s retirement in 1978, they moved to Lublin in 1979. They later divorced. Helen then moved to Barrington, IL to live with her daughter, Elizabeth. She resided with her daughter until 1999 at which time she moved to Morgan Plaza in Thorp. She entered the nursing home in March of this year. She was a member of Holy Assumption Orthodox Church, Lublin Homemakers and greatly enjoyed spending time with family and friends, especially her grandchildren, craftwork, baking, sewing, traveling, and collecting recipes.

She is survived by two daughters: Barbara (Tony) Notoli of Rialto, CA, Elizabeth Omura of Geneva, IL; one son, William (Donna) Petrusczak of Lublin, seven grandchildren, five great grandchildren and one sister, Celia Zdanowski of Manitowoc, WI. She was preceded in death by her parents; one sister, Jane Williamson and three brothers: Zigmund Kornatowski, Casimir Kornatowski and her twin brother Stanley Kornatowski.
