Cartwright, Fred (27 Sep 1846 - 27 Feb 1907)

Mr. Fred Cartwright, who died of la grippe on last week Thursday, Feb. 27, 1907, at three o'clock in the morning in the town of Sherman, Clark County, Wis., was born in Abbarten, East Prussia, Germany, on Sept. 27, 1846. He was married to Miss Minnie Piplow on Dec. 12, 1879, and they came to this country on Feb. 11, 1881, and settled in Chicago, where he lived for thirteen years. From Chicago he moved to Hobart, Ind., and from there to Illinois and settled on their present farm four years ago, where he resided up to the time of his death.

At all times and under all circumstances he walked in the well beaten path of righteousness and when fully conscious that he was nearing the last of earth, he appeared to be fully impressed with the idea that at the end of time eternity began, and that the bright faith which sustained him during those trying hours of suffering would only grow brighter and brighter as he journeyed toward the Infinite.

Well May his children cherish his memory as a precious legacy and we fain would say word of comfort to the stricken ones, but can only point them to the promise, "at eventide it shall be light."

He leaves to mourn his loss his wife, two sons, Adam and Emil and four daughters, Martha, Francis, Mrs. Henry Mueller of this vicinity and Mrs. Fred Gars of Elgin, Ill.

The funeral services were held at the Lutheran Church in this village on Saturday at twelve o'clock and remains interred in the cemetery two miles north of this village.
