Celebrate Tenth Anniversary

The Busy Bee Sewing Circle, an organization of the younger girls of the West Side Immanuel Reformed church celebrated their 10th anniversary, Wed. Afternoon, June 28th. All the members of the past, their families and the present members were invited. The celebration began at 2:00 P.M. with a program on the church grounds. The present members of the Busy Bee opened the program with a song, "All the Way My Savior Leads Me" which was followed by Scripture Reading and Prayer, led by Rev. Franzmeier; Duet by Lucille Schwarze and Vera Humke; short history of the Busy Bee was read by Rev. Franzmeier; Song, "Take the Name of Jesus with You" by the members, a short talk by Rev. Vriesen, who spoke on Romans 1:16, "Not to be Ashamed of the Gospel of Jesus Christ: followed by a short talk on 1 Cor. 3:9, "We are Laborers Together with God", by Rev. Franzmeier.

The program ended with a song "Bless Be The Tie that Binds: by the audience. At 4:30 a supper, which was prepared by the present members, was served to about 65, in the church basement.

This Sewing Circle was organized April 28th, 1923, by Mrs. Alberta Vriesen with a membership of 32. The first meeting was held at the home of Mrs. Vriesen, and the following officers were elected: Mrs. Alberta Vriesen, Pres; Miss Esther Humke, Vice Pres; Miss Erma Vollrath, Sec. and Treas. The Sewing Circle meets once a month at the home of one of its members. Each year it gives a nice sum of money to some of the benevolent institutions of the Reformed church. It helped some of the needy in this community with money and clothes and also helped improve the church building and church grounds. Aside of this, it gives fruit and flowers to sick members and wedding gifts to those members who are married. At present there are 26 members with the following officers; Pres, Miss Leona Franz, Vice Pres. Mrs. Martha Decker, Sec, Miss Lorraine Hume; Treas, Mrs. Lillian Miller.
