Habeck, Arnold Oscar (14 Apr 1925 - 5 Apr 2003)

Arnold O. Habeck, 77, Spencer, formerly of Stratford, died on Saturday, April 5, 2003, at the House of the Dove Hospice Home, Marshfield. Funeral services were held at 11 a.m., on Wednesday, April 9, at Zion Lutheran Church, Stratford. The Rev. Sue Eidahl officiated. Music was provided by Marge Redetzke, organist, and congregational singing. Burial was in Zion Lutheran Cemetery, town of Eau Pleine, Marathon County. Military rites were accorded by Veterans of Foreign Wars Post #6352, Stratford. Pallbearers were grandchildren, Mark Habeck, Carl Habeck, Ryan Habeck, John Lobe, Stephanie Lobe and Christina Lobe. Honorary pallbearers were David Trierweiler, Dennis Redetzke, Walter Polz, Merton Bennett, Charles Jicinsky and Kenneth Jicinsky.

Arnold Oscar Habeck was born on April 14, 1925, in Unity, to Oscar L. and Clara B. (nee Raether) Habeck. He attended schools in Unity and also the University of Wisconsin-Madison short courses for farming. He served in the U.S. Army Air Force during World War II, from Dec. 23, 1944, until his honorable discharge on June 20, 1946. He was stationed as a cadet at San Marcos, Texas. He married Margie N. Richter on Dec. 15, 1946, at Zion Lutheran Church, Colby. He was a member of Zion Lutheran Church and was a past church council member. He also was a member of VFW Post #6352, the Stratford Lions Club, Operating Engineers Local #139, and International Union of Engineers, Local #139. He also was a Stratford Village Board trustee and a Marathon County 4-H leader.

Survivors include his wife, Margie Habeck; one daughter, Sandra (Thomas) Lobe, Wisconsin Dells; two sons, Guy (Kathie) Habeck, Cadott, and Gary (Linda) Habeck, Corvallis, Mont.; six grandchildren, Mark (Rebecca) Habeck, Carl Habeck, Ryan Habeck, John (April) Lobe, Stephanie Lobe and Christina Lobe; one great-granddaughter, Kaylie Hoskins-Lobe; one brother, John Habeck, Blanchard, Idaho; three sisters, Lauretta Mielke, Spencer, Delores Justman, Spencer, and Beverly (Kenneth) Kannenberg, Oshkosh; and four sisters-in-law, Ellen Gewiss, Mosinee, Virginia Habeck, Roanoke, Va., Jeanette Habeck, Wauwatosa, and Lorraine Habeck, Stratford. Preceding him in death were his parents; five brothers, Ferdinand Habeck, Harold Habeck, Edward Habeck, Alvin Habeck and Clarence Habeck; one sister, Evelyn; and his stepmother, Edna Weller Habeck. Rembs-Kundinger Funeral Home, Marshfield, assisted the family with arrangements.
