Walter Liazuk

Walter S. Liazuk, 86, 111 E. 8th Avenue, Stanley, WI died Thursday, November 8, 2001 at Victory Medical Center, Stanley.

Walter was born on May 23, 1915 in Ladysmith, WI, the son of Samuel and Lottie (Zakrzewicz) Liazuk. He grew up in the Thorp area and later married Pearl Nichols on May 26, 1936 in Medford, WI. They lived in the Gilman and Thorp areas where he worked as a cheesemaker. In 1956 the family moved to Stanley, WI where they owned and operated Liazuk’s Bar and Café until their retirement. After his retirement, Walt loved to garden, tinker and especially loved "All-Star Wrestling."

He is survived by his wife, Pearl of Stanley, WI; seven children: Dean of Eau Claire, WI, Darlene (Dale) Tieman of Wausaukee, WI, Marilyn (Alois) Olichwier of Holcombe, WI, Wanda Tramm of Aldrich, MN, Duane (Barbara) of North Prairie, WI, Dale (Suzanne) of Oconomowoc, WI and Dae (Richard) Jacobson of Stanley, WI, 17 grandchildren and 14 great grandchildren. Also by two brothers; Frank (Loretta) Liazuk of Harwood Heights, IL, Fred (Alverda) Lupa of Travis City, MI; two sisters: Frances (Felix) Schiferl of Abbotsford, WI and Irene (J.C.) Askin of Baraboo, WI and sister-in-law Rose Liazuk of Gilman, WI. He was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers: Stanley Liazuk and Florian Mikalajczuk and two stepfathers: Frank Lupa and Chester Mikalajczyk.

Funeral services were held Monday, November 12, 2001, 9:30 a.m. at Holy Family Catholic Church, Stanley, WI with Father Robert Nelson officiating. Burial was in Meadowbrook Cemetery, Gilman, WI. Grandsons served as Pallbearers. Visitation was Sunday, November 11 from 4:00-8:00 p.m. at Plombon Funeral Home, Stanley with a rosary recited at 7:00 Sunday evening at the funeral home.
