Curtiss, Wisconsin, September 26, 1904 – Protecting herself from the furious attack of her drunk and maddened husband, Mrs. Fred Hensel, living two miles from here, is said to have fired a shot that ended her husband’s life.

He had been to town, and returning in an intoxicated condition, attempted to beat his wife and little ones. When the woman tried to pacify his, he became angry, and brandishing a large knife, threatened to kill her. Seizing a rifle, Mrs. Hensel, it is said, fired point blank at her husband and killed him instantly.
