Williams, Mary (19 JUL 1832 - 29 Jan 1920)

Mrs. Mary Williams, one of the oldest of the pioneer women of Clark County, Wis., passed away Jan. 29, 1920 at the home of her son, Henry E. Williams at Granton, Clark County. Deceased was born Mary Morse at Syracuse, N.Y., July 19, 1832, making her 87 years, 6 months and 10 days old. She was married to George Williams Jan. 29, 1852, just 68 years previous to the day she died. They came to Clark County in June 1856 and this has been her home ever since. Her husband died in March 1911. To them were born 9 children, five of who survive: namely Amelia, Mrs. Filmore Converse; Willis Williams, Jennie, Mrs. Alex Cattanach; Lina, Mrs. Oscar Doughty; and Henry E. Williams. She leaves also 16 grandchildren and 25 great-grandchildren, and one great-great-grandchild. She was one of the remarkable women who came to this county in its early days, and among that group were a goodly number of really great women. A friend who knew Mrs. Williams many years says of her that too much cannot be said in her praise.; she was one of the choicest women. Fortunate indeed is the community which had such a woman to lay the foundations of its early homes.

The funeral took place Sunday, Rev. Wilson Mallory officiating. The pallbearers were E. F. Brooks, Henry Sternitzky, Aug. Riedel, L. E. Moh, Web Winn and Fred Hart.
