Firnstahl, James S. (10 Jan 1927 - 4 Dec 2002)

James S. Firnstahl 75, Colby, Wisconsin, died on Wednesday, Dec. 4, 2002, at his home. Funeral services were held at noon on Saturday, Dec. 7, at St. Mary’s Catholic Church, Colby. The Rev. John Malik officiated. Military rites were accorded by the Colby VFW Post 2227. Burial was in St. Mary’s Catholic Cemetery, town of Colby. Pallbearers were his grandsons, Matt Umhoefer, David Umhoefer, Jeff Ayer, Josh Cole, Jason Cole and Keith Schaefer. Honorary pallbearers were Christian Firnstahl and Wyatt Lenz.

James S. Firnstahl was born on Jan. 10, 1927, in the town of Hull, Marathon County, to Herbert and Lucille (nee Hoppe) Firnstahl. He attended St. Mary’s Catholic School and graduated from Colby High School. After graduation, he served in the U.S. Army. He married Margaret Rucks on May 20, 1948, at St. Mary’s Catholic Church, Colby. He worked as a cheesemaker and then as a butcher for Hedler’s Supermarket. He then worked for the city of Colby until his retirement. He was a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church and VFW Post 2227. His interests included the Green Bay Packers. Survivors include his wife, Margaret, Colby; six children, Sharon (Mark) Umhoefer, Madison, Pamela (Mark) Leonard, Tampa Bay, Fla., Deborah (Warren) Ayer, Appleton, James (Lynn) Firnstahl, Arpin, Kerry (Glen) Cole, Colby, and Sandra (Tom Lenz) Firnstahl, Rhinelander; 17 grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; two sisters, Delores (Donald "Jake") Hedler, Colby, and Margaret (Ken) Hasenhorl, Colby; and two brothers, Emanuel (Mary) Firnstahl, Colby, and Daniel (Karen) Firnstahl, Westboro.

Preceding him in death were his parents, one granddaughter and one great-grandchild.

Community Funeral Home, Colby, assisted the family with arrangements.

So sorry to here about James. We also just lost my mother-in-law Stephanie Firnstahl. James is my father-in-laws cousin. We took a trip to Colby and met James & his wife and James gave me lots of information for the family tree. If any one is interested I can mail a copy for you.
