Kapfer, Mary E. (6 APR 1916 - 11 OCT 2002)

THORP - Mary Evelyn Kapfer, 86, of the town of Mead, Clark County, Wis., died Friday, Oct. 11, 2002, at her residence.

Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, Oct. 15, at Holy Family Catholic Church in Willard. Interment will be in the St. Bernard's Cemetery in Thorp.

Visitation will be held from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. Monday at Thorp Funeral Home and again at the church from 9:30 a.m. Tuesday until time of services. There will be a rosary service at 7:30 p.m. Monday at the funeral home.

Mary was born on April 6, 1916, in Chicago, the daughter of Gustav and Paulina (nee Bosko) Stafen. She attended school in the Chicago area and then worked as a welder for the Schwinn Bicycle factory until 1942. On May 19, 1934, she married Erich K. Kapfer at St. Philomena Catholic Church, in Chicago. He preceded her in death on April 19, 1974. The couple resided in Chicago until they moved to their farm near Thorp in 1946. Following her husband's death, she worked as a caregiver for many families in the area. She was a member of Holy Family Catholic Church in Willard and a past member of the church choir.

Surviving her are three daughters, Marianne (Bernard) Mertens, Thorp, Pauline (David) Haas, Thorp, and Erika (Darwin) Mason, Stanley; one son, Erich (Kathy Osowski) Kapfer, Thorp; 24 grandchildren, 58 great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren.
