Howard, Rose B. (4 Jul 1885 - 27 Mar 1920)

The death of Mrs. Rose B. Howard came as a sudden shock to the people of Greenwood, Clark County, Wis., and vicinity and to her many friends at Columbus, Wis., Superior, Wis., and to her classmates of the University of Wisconsin. Her death occurred Saturday noon, March 27th, 1920, after a second illness of four weeks, during the school years which had kept her from her duties as principal of the Greenwood High School.

Among those whom the death was felt most keenly, beside from the immediate family and relatives, was the faculty and students of the high school, by whom she was regarded with unusual attachment and appreciation.

Mrs. Rose B. Howard was born July 4th, 1885 at Columbus, Wis., and died March 27th, 1920 at the home of her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Erastus Bowen. She united with the M.E. Church at Columbus, Wis. in 1899. In 1903 she graduated from the Greenwood High School. In 1907 she graduated from the University of Wisconsin, receiving at that time a Bachelor of Arts Degree. By attending summer school at the University of Wisconsin, and from home study she received thee Master of Arts Degree in 1910. Her first two years after graduating from the University were spent as an English teacher in the Greenwood High School. The following year she accepted a position in the Dewey High School of Superior, Wis., as English teacher and continued her work there in the new Superior High School until the summer of 1916.

She was married Sept. 1, 1916 to Mr. Ray Howard of Greenwood, Wis.

In 1918 she accepted a position as assistant principal and English instructor in the Greenwood High School and the past year held the position of principal.

A short impressive funeral service was held at the home of her parents, Tuesday a.m., March 30th, and was attended by many friends and relatives. The High School students , together with many friends, paid their respects by escorting the body to the train at the Soo line depot.

Those who accompanied the body to Columbus, Wis. were the father, Mr. Bowen, Mr. E.F. Wollenberg and Mr. G.W. Bishop.

Many kind friends at Columbus assisted in a short service there.

In the death of Mrs. Rose B. Howard the community has lost one of its truest friends. The sympathy of the entire community is extended at this time to the bereaved family, and relatives.
