Ferneau, Eva M. (19 Jul 1864 - 29 Dec 1915)

Greenwood, Clark County, Wis. people were surprised to learn of the death of Mrs. Ralph Ferneau at Stevens Point Wednesday evening of last week. The Stevens Point Journal of Dec. 30 says of her death: "Mrs. Ralph Ferneau of 1412 Clark St. died at her home Wednesday evening at 6 o’clock after an illness of several days, with grippe, which had affected her heart. While she had not been in good health for some time and taken her bed a week ago, it was thought that she was improving until the time of her death, which came quite suddenly.

Deceased was 51 years old and had lived in Stevens Point for four years. She came here with her family from Greenwood, Wis., where she had lived for 30 years."

The funeral was held at the Baptist Church Sunday afternoon, rev. Dunlop preaching the funeral services and burial taking place in the Greenwood Cemetery.

Eva Montella Oelig was born at Greenleaf, Brown Co., Wis., July 19, 1864. She spent her childhood and youth at Wrightstown, and was married there July 8, 1883 to Ralph P. Ferneau. Immediately after her marriage she removed with her husband to this city, at that time only a small settlement in the woods. The Oelig family came at that time also.

In this community she spent the greater part of her married life, taking an active part in the social and religious life of the place. Here a daughter, Vera, now Mrs. James Norris of Stevens Point, was born to them in Feb. 1890. Mrs. Ferneau was an earnest Christian and a charter member of the Baptist Church, which was founded in those pioneer days by a few brave hearts in the face of many difficulties.

Mrs. Ferneau went with her husband to Stevens Point about four years ago, where she lived till the time of her death.

Deceased was 51 years old and leaves many friends both here and at Stevens Point. Besides her husband and daughter she leaves her father, Wm. Oelig Sr., one sister, Mrs. Frank Norris, two brothers, Fred A. Oelig of this city and William Oelig Jr. of New Auburn, all of who were present at the funeral
