Kurth, Wilhelmina (14 Feb 1838 - 29 May 1915)

Mrs. Wilhelmina Kurth, one of the oldest residents of Clark County, died at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Geo. Wilding, May 29, 1915. She was born at Trieglaf, Germany, Feb. 14, 1838, her maiden name being Wilhelmina Gandt. She came to this country when she was 12 years of age, and was married to Chas. Kurth Nov. 7, 1859. They came to Clark County in 1871 and bought the farm and hotel at what has since been known as Kurth’s Corners. Her Mr. Kurth died in 1883. By industry and economy she continued to carry on the farm and hotel and care for her family. For the last five years, as the weakness of old age came on, she has lived with her children. She leaves to mourn her death three sons, Robert of Neillsville, William and Richard of Grant, two daughters, Mrs. Fred Handke of York and Mrs. Geo. Wilding of Grant, besides 16 grandchildren and one sister, Mrs. A. Kurth of Milwaukee. Besides these there are many old friends far and near who will mourn her death almost as one family. The funeral took place Tuesday at the Fischer Church, Rev. Reiff officiating.

Below if the Farm Residence and Hotel of Mrs. Minnie Kurth.

This farmhouse and hotel is located on the fine large farm in the town of Grant five miles east of the city of Neillsville. There are one hundred and twenty-five acres of the farm which are improved and some woodland besides. Mrs. Kurth came to Clark County with her husband in 1872 and located on the farm where she now lives. In 1881 they built the fine large brick hotel and rsidence which this cut represents. In 1882 Mr. Kurth died, since which time Mrs. Kurth with the assistance of her sons, has continued to run the farm and hotel. The farm is in a high state of cultivation and is valuable especially on account of the short distance from the city. The outbuildings on the farm are all large and well constructed. Mr. and Mrs. Kurth were both natives of Germany. She has seven children in her family, four boys and three girls. Owing to Mrs. Kurth's age and inability she will soon off the place for sale.
