Services were held Tuesday in the Evangelical United Brethren Church, Chili for George C. Selk, 77, of Chili, who died late Saturday at Memorial Hospital in Neillsville. Burial was made in the church Cemetery.

Mr. Selk was born Nov. 26, 1889, in Illinois, and came with his parents to Clark County at the age of 16. They located on a farm in the town of Fremont, and he first worked as a barber under Tom Gibson and later purchased the shop. He barbered for over 51 years, retiring in 1964. He served on the school board for many terms.

Mr. Selk was married on April 23, 1916, at Marshfield, to the former Effie Harriman who survives him. They celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary last year.

He had been a patient at St. Joseph’s Hospital in Marshfield, and for five weeks at Memorial Hospital here.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by a son, Alvord, route 2, Spencer; four sisters, Mrs. Minnie Raab, Chicago Heights, Ill; Mrs. William (Linda) Behling, Chili; Mrs. Gertrude Luehrs, Wisconsin Rapids; and Mrs. Donald (Luella) Beck, Milwaukee; a brother, August, Neillsville, one grandchild, and two great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by a brother, Charles; and by two sisters, Lena and Ruby.

Mr. Selk was a member of the Evangelical United Brethren Church of Chili.
