Kurth, Edna (Marriage - 27 June 1934)

Dainty white blossoms and ferns marked the aisle and tall white tapers lighted the palm and flower banked altar for the wedding of Miss Edna Kurth and Mr. Leonard Westphal at the Zion Lutheran church in the town of Grant on June 27th at two o’clock.

Over a long white embroidered organdy gown the bride wore a jacket of white taffeta. A long tulle veil fell from a cap of tulle with a shirred edge. She carried a shower bouquet of talisman roses, swansonia and lilies of the valley. Attending her were Miss Norma Kurth, St. Paul, the maid of honor, and the Misses Mathilda Westphal, Milwaukee, and Miss Helen Braatz. The maid of honor wore a pale green net over taffeta and carried a gorgeous bouquet of pink roses and snap dragons. Miss Westphal wore a pale blue flat crepe and chiffon and carried a handsome bouquet of blue larkspur with baby breath, carnations and snapdragons. Miss Braatz wore a yellow chiffon gown and carried a lovely bouquet of yellow snapdragons and carnations. The bride’s mother wore a crepe gown of blue and tan and a wide hat to harmonize.

The groom was attended by August Westphal, Eau Claire, as best man, and Harvey Feustel and Erwin Braatz. The bridal party approached the altar to "Savior Follow On", Mrs. Buth at the organ. After the bride met the groom at the altar, Miss Elizabeth Brittine sang. The ceremony was performed by Rev. Buth, using the double ring ceremony. Words were added by Rev. Albrecht of Racine, a friend of the young couple.

After the wedding a reception was held at the home of the bride. At six o’clock a sumptuous dinner was served to a hundred guests, most of whom were relatives. The house was tastefully decorated in yellow and white, as was the bridal table with its yellow candles and huge white cake decorated with yellow roses.

The bride, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. William Kurth, was born and brought up in the town of Grant. After graduating from the Neillsville High School she attended the County Training school at Wausau and has since taught in rural schools. Rev. Leonard Westphal, is the son of Mrs. Fred Westphal of Fall Creek. He graduated from St. Paul Luther College in 1930 and from Wartburg Seminary at Dubuque in 1933.

Rev. and Mrs. Westphal have gone on a ten day trip to Niagara Falls, after which they will make their home at Random Lake, Wisconsin, where Reverend Westphal is engaged as pastor of the Lutheran Church.

Among the out-of-town guests were Mrs. Emma Uthmeier, Mr. and Mrs. William Uthmeier, Mrs. R Uthmeier, Mr. and Mrs. Robert Gandt and their daughter and her husband, all of Marshfield, and many friends and relatives of Rev. Westphal, from Fall Creek, Wisconsin.
