Voie, Mr./Mrs Otto (Gold - 17 OCT 1964)

Mr. and Mrs. Otto Voie of Greenwood, Clark Co., Wis. celebrated their golden wedding anniversary on Saturday, Oct. 17, 1964, at Our Savior’s Lutheran Church in Greenwood.

Fetivities began at 1:30 p.m. with a program. Participants were their grandchildren, Larry Steuber, as master of ceremonies; Mary Voie, who sang two solos; Margie Dyre, reading a poem and a three-sister trio, Mrs. Ralph Mastin, Karen and Carol Steuber, who were accompanied for their selections by Margie Dyre.

The Rev. and Mrs. Arvid Myhrwold sang a duet, with the pastor also singing a Norwegian song, reading the history of the honored couple and giving a talk. Mr. and Mrs. Voie were ushered into the church by grandsons, Arlen Steuber and Ralph Mastin, and the "Wedding March" was played by Mrs. Don Warner.

Vases of gold chrysanthemums adorned the altar. Mrs. Voie wore an orchid corsage pinned to her ensemble and her husband a carnation boutonniere.

A reception was held at 3:30 p.m. in the church and dinner was served at 4 o’clock to 200 guests. A three-tiered wedding cake which served as a centerpiece was cut by Mrs. Clarence Verhulst and Miss Nelda Windom. Mrs. Joseph Lamonica and Mrs. Robert Baird poured. The six granddaughters served as waitresses and Mrs. Harry Gordee was in charge of the guest book.

Mrs. Voie welcomed the guests and thanked those participating in the program and those coming to help them celebrate their happy event.

Present for the occasion were the honored couple’s four children and families which include their 18 grandchildren and four great-grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. Mr. and Mrs. Emory Voie with Mary and Karla, Fond du Lac; Mr. and Mrs. Harold (June) Dunn, Eau Claire; Mr. and Mrs. Godfrey (Olive) Dyre, Margie and Arlene of Greenwood; Mr. and Mrs. Charles (Vivian) Steuber, with Arlen, Larry, Karen, Carol, Wayne, Karlis, Janet and Diane of Strum; Mr. and Mrs. Robert Baird, Mr. and Mrs. Duane Walker and Kim and Mr. and Mrs. Ralph Mastin, all of Eau Claire.

Mr. and Mrs. Joseph Lamonica of Chicago, Ill.; and Mrs. Robert Grams with Roxie, Pammy and Tod of Fond du Lac; Miss Joan Dyre of Minneapolis, Minn., and Miss Jane Dyre, Delavan.

Other friends and relatives came from Milwaukee, Chicago, Cadott, Bloomer, Iola, Scandinavia, Big Falls, Elkhorn, Foster, Fairchild, Neillsville, Loyal, Amherst, Elderon, Wittenberg, Spencer and the Greenwood area. Elmer Voie, Mr. Voie’s brother from Chicago, was present to enjoy the occasion with them.

Otto Voie was born at Scandinavia on Feb. 21, 1890, to Mr. and Mrs. Tom Voie and received his education in schools there. His hobby is horses.

Mrs. Voie, the former Glenora Syvertson, daughters of Mr. and Mrs. Gunerius Gyvertson, was born in Scandinavia on Oct. 17, 1895, and also received her education there. She enjoys knitting.

Both are in good health and are members of Our Savior’s Lutheran Church and the parish organizations.

After their marriage, Mr. and Mrs. Voie lived in Barron for two years and then farmed in the Iola are until they moved to Greenwood in 1930 and settled on a farm in that area. Retiring from farming in 1940, they moved to the city of Greenwood and since that time Mr. Voie has been self employed as a painter and in dehorning cattle.

They were married on Oct. 22, 1914, by the Rev. C. S. B. Hoel in Zion Evangelical Lutheran Church in Iola. Attendants were Mrs. Milton (Lydia) Syvertson, now of Milwaukee, and the late Mr. Syvertson; William Voie of Kaukauna, and the late Mrs. Peter (Delia Voie) Larson.

Mrs. Syvertson and Mr. Voie were unable to be present for Saturday’s celebration at which the honored couple received many gifts and congratulatory messages.
