Johnson, Sever R. (22 Mar 1854 - 3 NOV 1930)

Funeral services for Sever R. Johnson who died Monday morning, were yesterday, Wednesday, Oct. 29th at 1 P.M. at the residence and 1:45 P.M. at the Trinity Ev. Lutheran church. The Rev. H. F. Leschensky officiated and he was laid away in the Union cemetery.

Sever B. Johnson was born in Romedal, Norway on Mach 22, 1854 and therefore attained the age of 76 years, 7 months and 5 days. He was baptized and confirmed at 15 years of age in the Ev. Lutheran Church in Romedal. In 1882 he left Norway and came to the United States, locating at La Crosse where he worked on the railroad. He later came to Loyal and worked the Andrew Emerson farm northeast of Loyal for several years. In 1889 he purchased a farm northeast of Loyal which he worked as long as he was able to do so. About four years ago he moved to a smaller farm on which he lived at the time of his death.

On April 21, 1889 he was married to Maria Nelson, to which union 3 children were born, all of which and also his wife preceded him into eternity. On Aug. 22, 1894 he was united in marriage to Olive Nelson. This union was blessed with 3 children, who with his wife survive him. They are Anna, Mrs. John Luchterhand, John, whereabouts unknown, and Elsie, Mrs., Frank Zuege Jr., of Beaver, and 5 grand children. Also a brother and sister living in Christiana, Norway and other relatives and friends who mourn his departure.

Altho’ ill for several months the condition of the deceased was not serious until Thursday evening when he suffered a slight stroke which rendered him speechless. Death came Monday at 8:48 A.M.

He was a quiet man, upright in his dealings and a fine neighbor. The community has lost a valuable citizen.

The Tribune is among the many who offer sincerest sympathy to the stricken family.
