GREENWOOD - Darwin "Dar" K. Vollrath, 53, of Greenwood, died Sunday, April 3, 2005, in Italy.

A memorial and service celebrating his life will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday at Clark County Park in Greenwood. Participants are asked to bring lawn chairs. In case of rain, the service will be held at the Greenwood High School.

Vollrath Darwin 'Dar' K. (1 June 1951 - 3 April 2005)

GREENWOOD -Darwin "Dar" K. Vollrath, 53, of Greenwood died Sunday, April 3, 2005, in Pesaro, Italy, of a heart attack while doing what he loved, riding a bike. Cremation took place April 6, 2005, in Italy.

A celebration of Dar's life was held April 16 at Greenwood Park. The Rev. Michael Mertens officiated. Music was provided by Chuck Bayuk, soloist, and Jerry Mann, bagpiper. Eulogists were Dan Schroeder, Steve Fouts, Butch Duschack, Randy Vollrath and Joshua Vollrath.

Darwin Vollrath was born June 1, 1951, in Marshfield to Kenneth and Janis (nee Langfeldt) Vollrath. He graduated from Greenwood High School in 1969, and attended UW-Madison, St. Norbert and UW-Eau Claire. He married Marcia Bushman in August, 1972. They divorced in 1978. They had two sons, Aaron and Joshua. He then married Deborah Zawadzki on May 9, 1981, at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Greenwood. They had three sons, Jacob, Seth and Samuel. Dar's passion for life was displayed in many ways, and he was actively involved in his community. He was a past member of Greenwood Jaycees, a founding member and past president of Greenwood Schools Athletic Booster Club, and founder and past director of Greenwood Mud Dunker 3 on 3 Basketball Tournaments and Greenwood Alumni Basketball Tournaments. He coached fifth- and sixth-grade basketball for 10 years, and was a past certified WIAA football, basketball and baseball referee. He was a past member of the Greenwood Volunteer Fire Department, a past business owner and member of the Greenwood Chamber of Commerce, a past president and present member of the Greenwood Lions Club, a past director of Midwest Showshoe Championship Series and Old Towne Showshoe Race, a present director of Wisport Cycling Series and co-director of the Greenwood Dairy Days 38 Bike Race, Willard Friendly Century and Clinic, and the Midwest Time Trial Championship. At the time of his death, he was employed by Compliance and Regulatory Service, Willard.

He will be sadly missed by his wife, Deborah, Greenwood; five sons, Aaron Vollrath, Madison, Joshua (Amy) Vollrath, Fall Creek, Jacob Vollrath, Madison, Seth Vollrath, La Crosse, and Samuel Vollrath, Greenwood; one granddaughter, Gianna Vollrath; two stepgranddaughters, Teagan Mayenschein and Tatum Mayenschein; his mother, Janis Vollrath, Marshfield; one brother, Randy (Linda) Vollrath, Wautoma; nieces and nephews; aunts and uncles; and his sons' special friends, Bernice, Erin, Amber and Brittany.

He was preceded in death by his father, Kenneth Vollrath; his sister, Janene; and his paternal and maternal grandparents.
